But here’s the thing: those numbers don’t tell us anything about how the heat actually moves inside your machine or how the air is flowing. We push for on-site diagnosis because a tube can look perfect on paper and still burn out in two weeks. Maybe the thermal reflection is off. Maybe the voltage is jumping around. Either way, you’re left with a dead part and a stopped line. The reality of how these tubes actually last A tube that lasts isn’t just about having thicker quartz. It’s a balancing act. You have to keep the filament temperature in check while managing the stress on the envelope. If you cram a high-wattage tube into a tight space without enough breathing room, you get “heat soak.” It’s like trying to run a marathon in a parka. The filament just degrades faster. When we come out, we check your current draw and feel the actual temperature of the glass. If that glass is scorching, you’re just wasting money heating up the air instead of your product. The trade-offs you need to know about We use halogen-filled quartz to stop the tungsten filament from evaporating too quickly. It keeps the tube alive longer. And depending on what you’re heating, we might suggest a coated tube to shift the emission spectrum. But there’s a catch. Coated tubes are great for stability and hitting specific materials, but they usually don’t pump out as much raw heat as clear quartz. You’re trading some power for a longer lifespan.
